Challenge Of Buying Infant Clothing Prior To Birth
Sunday, August 10th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedMany new parents and their relatives may be surprised to the see the variety of infant clothing that is available in a multitude of styles, colors and designs. With today’s medical testing available, there are few instances in which the sex of the newborn is not known prior to their birth and many people will have lots of infant clothing on hand when the baby gets home from the hospital. The big problem is that while they may know the sex of the baby, it is tough to determine the size of the baby and some of the clothing bought early may not fit properly.
Sizes of infant clothing generally run in months, such as zero to three months, three to six months and so on, until the child grows into the need for baby toddler clothing. This is the stage of growth that can be the most difficult as different companies’ sizing may not always be the same. For example, a size three to six months from one manufacturer may fit perfectly while the infant clothing in the same size from a different company may not come close to fitting.
Even knowing the sex of the baby before it is born is no guarantee that buying a lot of infant clothing ahead of time will provide sufficient clothing for the first few weeks. Additionally, babies are known for growing rapidly, and planning ahead may seem like a wonderful idea, but they may grow out of some of the infant clothing before they have the chance to wear it.
Not Everyone’s Taste Is The Same
Another tough part of receiving infant clothing as gifts for the new baby is that not everyone has the same taste in style and colors. Some relatives and friends may opt for that are adorned with cute sayings or in colors that do not match the parents’ tastes. In many of these cases the infant clothing is either returned for exchange for something that parents like or simply donated to a used clothing store.
Prices for infant clothing can also cover a wide range, from the exceptionally cheap to rather expensive designer duds for infants. While the family budget will help decide the price of the clothing, remembering that the infant clothing probably will not fit for very long should also be part of the equation. In most cases, a child will wear their outfits three or four times before growing out of it, taking durability of the clothes out of the decision-making process.
